  • 4 Lovely atmosphere & decour- nice club!

I went last friday, for the first time since it was 'powerhouse' !!! yes, mid forties, yet still had a great time. Nice surroundings, decent people, music was really good, Very courteous staff ( although that might be because I reminded them of their Mom's) altogether a great nite out. I think I lost my mobile there though, If so, can the management pls get in touch, you know us oldies and gadgets - I miss it!!! - all the happening crowd, don't fret I won't be going again soon, as my powerhouse & locarno days are long gone. However, I will tell my 20yr & her friends too, as would they wld enjoy it.

I went to the venue in february this year. It is located on hurst st and is near the birmingham hippodrome and the arcadian centre. We arrived early and there was only one bar open to the front of the building, we waited for what felt like ages for the rest of the club to open up. But when it did i was plesantly surprised how different all the rooms were, there was an 'ice room' which felt like the famous 'ice hotel' in sweden, there was a 19th century paris nightclub room plus a high tech tokyo room. The staff were ok and the drinks were about average for city centre prices. If you are looking for a nightclub with a bit of imagination then this is the place to check out. Took a few photographs in there too and still have then!

  • 3 Nothing new..

This is a relatively new addition to the Birmingham city club scene, and has failed to excite. It is a reasonable venue, which makes an effort (especially on student nights - weds and monday)to cover a range of genres, which is hugely appreciated. However, it is greatly overpowered by popular chart dance music. This is, I suppose, to be expected, but for those looking for a slightly different club experience might find the monotony of this music disappointing: go into any club on Broad Street, and hear the exact same thing. Having said this, it caters for lovers of this scene well, with 5 bar rooms and 2 dancefloors, and good drinks offers (stray beyond these, and look forward to a hefty price tag). It's also easy to get to, located right by the Bullring and and the bars of the Arcadian.

The Birmingham branch of this franchise is popular as a whole night experience, but for me is overrated.Europe's largest illuminated dancefloor plays 70s and 80s. Another large dancefloor has more modern hits and great light and smoke effects.Elsehwere inside are small bars with themes (New York, Hong Kong, Wild West or similar (don't quote me I was a little drunk)) which I think fail to captivate and reminds one of a cheap theme park. The drinks are controlled; that is the cocktails are mixed to be not too potent, so (a) you buy more and (b) you don't become too drunk and cause problems. There is a smoking area upstairs too.The bouncers are friendly but regimented in their approach, with head mounted cameras and high standards. Can't say the same about the clientele though.Definately some wrong faces in here of a weekend, but can be a good laugh.

What can i say... From the point of booking the night, to the end of the night it was bloody FANASTIC. Wasnt much of a Oceana fan due to peeps reviews. All i can say, go check the place out before you judge it. I have to say: Loads of thanks to Bryony for booking the night for me .(VIP room) Thanks to the waitresses Agana & Danielle & thanks to the bouncers and the management. Many thanks John.

  • 4 My fave nightclub

Although quite expensive at the weekends, this is still my fave club. It's a good size (though can get painfully packed on a Monday or Wednesday student night), has different music, and plenty of places to chill out and hear yourselves talk for the first bit of your night. The cheese room pushes even my limit for cheese though, playing Rock Around the Clock and other dubious 'classics'. There are some gems in and amongst the rotting cheese though! The best nights here are student nights (NUS only though) as the drinks are reasonable and the crowd is happy

  • 3 Great Club, Shocking Customer Service

I have been to many venues run my Luminar Leisure PLC and this club has a fantastic layout with the potential for a great night out. However, during the day time when I was making a large booking the lady wasn't very helpful and seemed to be rearing a child whilst my call was diverted to a mobile - very unprofessional. The door staff also lack common sense knocking back a respectable friend of mine on the basis that his expensive jumper had a stripe on it. Unacceptable wait to store coats. In summary: Great club with several themed rooms and music to suit everyone which is poorly managed.
