• Green-fingers (and non-green fingers) take note!

  Figuring that I couldn't be bothered with the Christmas shopping rush this year (as with pretty much every year), a friend recommended the Garden Boutique website for some novel gifts. And they were right to do so. As you might expect, some very handy and excellent products were on offer for my green-fingered friends, particularly with the garden sculptures (the wooden loveseat would be a very striking piece in anyone's garden!). However, there were also some fantastic bits and bobs for those without gardens, my favourites being the rather inventive sun jars and kitchen herb growing kits. On top of all of this, the website was easy to use (and easy on the eye) and service/delivery was top notch with minimal fuss. All in all, a great site to browse and shop from and clearly maintained by people with a passion for gardening.

• Great gift ideas for difficult relatives

  I find it absolutely impossible to buy presents for my father. He's a bit taciturn and seems to mostly enjoy pottering around in the garden by himself. He is also reasonably well-off, which means he has already bought anything he feels he needs: this may sound familiar to a few people. Anyway, on the lookout for Christmas presents I came across this site. Some of it is a bit girly, but there's loads here that doesn't seem to be available anywhere else. The delivery was very quick and the communications excellent. Now I've tried the site I may well be going back for the rest of my Christmas shopping!
